The Greatest Obstacle

Do you want to know what my biggest parenting challenge is?

Let me start but telling you what it is not.

It is not

determining which homeschool curriculum to use

or even the decision whether or not to actually homeschool these children at all.

It is not preparing daily breakfasts, lunches and dinners with variety and healthy eating habits in mind.

It is not

balancing the demands of six children, a messy house, overflowing laundry, marriage and friendships.

It is not

determining the best course of discipline appropriate for six different humans.

No.

It isn't any of those things.

My biggest parenting challenge is this . . .

With five children under the age of six all together on every day outings to the grocery store, museums, farms, nature hikes and more -

How am I supposed to use a public restroom?

  1. This is funny.
Almost like a real-life Family Circus cartoon.

  2. 1 time I was desperate to go to the bathroom when at Walmart. 3 kids in the cart, pregnant, family restroom full, handicapped stall broken...what now? I pulled the cart up the last stall and used the cart as a door so no one could get down that way, but I could still see my kids (they watch me go to the bathroom all the time anyway!). As I was trying to move the cart to leave the bathroom, a frustrated mother came in carrying 2 kids and said, "That's how you do it! I have been trying to figure that out!" Desperation is the mother of invention!

  3. Hear! Hear!! Very well put. The logistics of this are unfathomable . . . especially if there's the off-chance you also want to keep everyone germ-free!
